Case Study: A road accident case with multiple fractures seeking treatment after 18 months

A Nigerian national, 54 yrs. old woman Mrs Esther Ubeka, suffered a road accident that claimed the life of her husband 18 months ago. Esther Ubeka sustained multiple fractures in the right arm and hip and the right thigh bone. She came to India through Med Access India for medical assistance.

“I lost my husband in a car accident and sustained multiple fractures in the right arm and hip and the right thigh bone. I got severe pain all over my body. I was not able to walk properly, my condition was worst. I showed my doctors there in my home country, nothing positive happened. People suggested me to go to India as its well-known for its treatment maagement. But there were certain questions in my mind like how to reach right doctor? Med Access selected Dr Murtaza Adeeb a senior, highly qualified and experienced orthopaedic surgeon for her surgery. Dr Adeeb informed that fractures were quite complicated. The fracture ends of the right arm were two inches apart. The fractures in the right femur were at two levels, one near the hip and another lower down. Also no treatment had been done for 18 months, which had made the bones very weak. The fracture ends were rounded off with a lot of scar tissue in between.

The patient was thoroughly assessed by physician and anaesthetist before the surgery was performed. Surgery was performed in two stages. In the first, the right arm was fixed with a plate. Three days later, the right femur was fixed, and the fracture in the shaft had to be opened up first and the ends approximated. Patient also needed hip replacement because there was a fracture on top end
