Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure and performed general or local anesthesia. When general anesthesia is administered patient sleeps throughout the procedure; , with local anesthesia patient is partially sedated and the nose and the surrounding parts are numb and patients does not feel any pain. During an operation, the surgeon makes cuts within the nostrils. In some cases, the surgeon may have to make cuts across the base of the nose. Once cut, the surgeon tries to reshape the inner bone and cartilage to change the appearance of the nose. Once the reshaping is done, the incisions are stitched finely so that no scars are left and the reshaped nose bears the natural appearance. For the first week following the surgery, patient needs to wear a nasal splint. For the first week patient will experience swelling and bruising which slowly disappears with each passing day. It can last for around 2 week to subside. Slight swelling will continue until next 6 months but will not be noticeable for others but only for the patient and the surgeon. The final shape will be apparent only after complete healing and the total disappearance of the swelling. Though the procedure is a day procedure, patient must take rest as much as possible before resuming normal
